I have some personal news to share. I have decided to move back to Taiwan with my family this upcoming summer. In the past couple years, I have been thinking whether California is a good place for my kids to grow up. The USA was great 25 years ago when I first arrived and I appreciate all the opportunities that have been given to me. But things have changed. The education and healthcare systems in America are breaking. The laws are optionally enforced. American politics are polarized to the point that the majority are no longer heard or served. America is still the most powerful country of the world but I found its founding values rapidly slipping. Many institutions are at the PG&E-level dominance and incompetence that they prioritize their own institutional interest above everything else. People suffer as a consequence.
OMG U TOTALLY HAD ME… i was nodding my head after every sentence, thinking about how great my visit to Taiwan was last fall.
well im glad to hear you’re staying but i completely agree with much of your April Fools logic regardless… i hope the USA and CA can turn things around in future.
got me as well, the only doubt (before the last sentence) I had was "more chill environment in Taiwan". I had nightmares of taking college entrance exams even a few years after I got into College in China.
More seriously, have you ever considered any US but non-CA places? I have found myself thinking about that often. Many other places may score better on education discrimination and law enforcement, though most of the issues with US would remain.

You got me! I’m seriously thinking about moving away from the Bay Area though
You had me fooled! I could totally see someone making this decision based on the combination of factors you listed.
Totally got me! This has been a fun read.
